The Brother in the Echo: full secret-ending guide
Spoilers below. The secret ending does not require the final boss, but it does require you to return alive.
Conditions
- Find one trace on Floor 3, one on Floor 6 and one on Floor 8.
- Each floor can only count once.
- Your action must mention “brother” or “brother” and at least one search word: find, search, look, ask, trace, charm, letter, clue, sign.
- After the third trace you receive the Brother's Charm.
- Take the Abyss Heart and return to the surface. You may fight the final boss or flee.
What to type
On Floor 3: “I search for my brother's traces”, “I examine the scratches and ask about my brother”, or “I look for my brother's charm.”
On Floor 6 and Floor 8, repeat the search with the words “brother” and a search verb. The clue counter shows 1/3, 2/3, 3/3.
Common failures
- Searching on the wrong floor.
- Mentioning the brother without a search word, or searching without mentioning him.
- Dying before returning.
- Thinking the final boss is required. It is not.
Reward
You unlock the hidden achievement A Name in the Echo and the ending The Brother in the Echo. The ending takes priority over Without Looking Back.
